Max Verstappen led from start to finish at Saturday afternoon's Sprint in Austria, sealing his second Sprint victory of the season, and a P1 start for tomorrow’s Grand Prix.
Verstappen fought off the challenges from both Ferrari drivers at the beginning of the Sprint before taking off and crossing the line nearly two seconds ahead of Charles Leclerc in second. After battling with his team mate earlier in the Sprint, Carlos Sainz was made to settle for third place, ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell in fourth.
Sergio Perez battled his way from 13th to fifth, ahead of Esteban Ocon in sixth. Kevin Magnussen finished in seventh, in front of the recovering Lewis Hamilton, who took the final point in the Sprint, after a long battle with Mick Schumacher in Haas – who finished ninth.
The Sprint saw a few incidents, including contact between Hamilton and Pierre Gasly at the start, and Alex Albon and Sebastian Vettel. Fernando Alonso, in the other Alpine, did not take part in the Sprint after failing to get going at the start of the formation lap.
