RACE HIGHLIGHTS: Watch all the action from a dramatic Emilia Romagna GP at Imola
Mercedes registered another 1-2 victory at Imola on Sunday afternoon as they wrapped up their seventh consecutive constructors' title, but while it might sound like a straightforward race for the Silver Arrows, it was anything but.
Lewis Hamilton dropped to third off the line as Red Bull's Max Verstappen jumped him to slot in behind polesitter Valtteri Bottas.
But a long first stint, coupled with a perfectly timed Virtual Safety Car after Esteben Ocon's Renault stopped with a gearbox issue, allowed Hamilton to pit and leapfrog Bottas and Verstappen to take the lead.
Late in the race Verstappen managed to get past Bottas – who was carrying some damage on his car – but the Dutchman then suffered what looked like a puncture and spun out of the race from second place.
It meant Hamilton and Bottas took a 1-2 finish on the day when Mercedes sealed an incredible seventh straight championship, with four races of the season yet to run.
