BEYOND THE GRID: George Russell on his belief in Mercedes, being pushed by Hamilton and much more

On this week’s episode of F1’s Beyond the Grid podcast, Tom Clarkson speaks to a very familiar face, as George Russell stops by to reveal what he does in his free time, his hopes for Mercedes, working with Lewis Hamilton, and plenty more.
Russell is set to finish his second campaign with Mercedes after making the step up from Williams at the start of the 2022 season, and the Briton reflects on his first two years as a full-time member of the Silver Arrows driver line-up.
Prior to Russell’s arrival Mercedes had won eight constructors’ championships in a row but since then they have only scored one win – Russell’s victory at the 2022 Sao Paulo Grand Prix – but he explains why he believes there is “light at the end of the tunnel”.
And when he eventually gets the car that can fight for victories and world championships, Russell explains to Clarkson why he is fully confident that he can capitalise once given competitive machinery.
Speaking to Clarkson, Russell explains how a new attitude following the summer break has helped him rediscover his best form, after a run of tough results in the first half of the year.
He also talks about what he does in his spare time away from the track and his new hobby, freediving, as well as how invested his family are in his F1 career, and how his seven-time world champion team mate, Hamilton, is pushing him to a new level.
