He’s a two-time race podium finisher in Formula 2 this season. Now Swiss driver Louis Deletraz will get a chance to step up and climb into a Formula 1 cockpit for the first time when he drives for Haas in the post-Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Pirelli tyre test next month.
The Charouz Racing System driver, currently 11th in the F2 drivers’ standings on 62 points, will drive on day two of the test. As part of his preparations, he’ll spend time with the Haas operation on-site at the Brazilian and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix.
“I’m naturally very excited to make my Formula 1 debut testing in Abu Dhabi,” said Deletraz, who won the 2015 Formula Renault 2.0 NEC title. “I’m grateful to both [owner] Gene Haas and [Team Principal] Guenther Steiner for giving me the opportunity to test with Haas F1 Team.
“It’s the perfect way to end my 2018 season, one in which I’ve continued to develop and showcase my credentials. I’m looking forward to spending time with Haas F1 Team in Brazil and Abu Dhabi prior to driving the VF-18.”

Steiner added: “He has enjoyed a solid 2018 season competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, amidst possibly one of the strongest fields in recent years. I’m sure he will acquit himself with the same drive and determination that has brought him success throughout his career to-date.”
Deletraz is currently in his second season in F2, having progressed to the category on the back of a runner-up finish in the 2016 Formula V8 3.5 championship in 2016.
