F2: Gabriele Minì earns maiden win in Miami rain

Gabriele Minì secured his first win in FIA Formula 2, making a penultimate lap overtake on Dino Beganovic for Feature Race victory in treacherous conditions at the Miami International Autodrome.

The Italian started fourth on the grid but fell back in the early stages as drivers battled to keep out of trouble around what was initially a wet track.

As others hit trouble, Minì bided his time and emerged after the pitstop phase within touching distance of race leader Rafael Câmara, with the track rapidly drying in the closing stages.

Câmara’s advantage was wiped out by a late Safety Car, one of several during the race for various incidents, including an opening lap, Turn 1 collision for Sprint winner Nikola Tsolov and an error by Alexander Dunne that put both out of the running.

It meant a sprint to the finish as the race went to time rather than the originally scheduled 32 laps, with drivers fighting for grip on worn wet Pirelli tyres.

Câmara, Beganovic and Minì were then locked in a back and forth fight that saw the lead change hands multiple times, as errors from the former duo meant that a patient Minì claimed P1 after a hard-fought battle.

Behind the podium finishers, Noel León secured fourth place ahead of polesitter Kush Maini, who rounded out the top five.

Ritomo Miyata continued his good start to the season with points in sixth, ahead of Mari Boya, Colton Herta, Sebastián Montoya and Joshua Duersken completing the top 10.
