F2: Piastri caps off title-winning season with Feature Race win in Abu Dhabi

Championship winner and 2022 Alpine F1 reserve driver Oscar Piastri finished off his Formula 2 career on the top step of the podium, beating soon-to-be Alfa Romeo Formula 1 driver Guanyu Zhou and UNI-Virtuosi’s Felipe Drugovich in a strategic Feature Race at Yas Marina.
With Drugovich and Theo Pourchaire on an alternate strategy, Piastri and Zhou worked hard to retain enough life in their medium Pirellis in anticipation of a late duel, but in the end, they’d not need the extra rubber as a late Virtual Safety Car gave them some breathing space, with a 4.9s gap separating the two Virtuosis of Zhou and Drugovich at the flag.

Unlike the front two, Ferrari junior Robert Shwartzman couldn’t keep Drugovich and Pourchaire at bay, helplessly watching on as the duo passed him during the closing laps and dropped him to fifth.
Dan Ticktum’s medium tyre held off Ferrari junior Marcus Armstrong’s supersofts for sixth. Red Bull prodigy Juri Vips put in an impressive shift to rise seven places for eighth at the flag, beating Ralph Boschung and Richard Verschoor.
Piastri ends a magnificent season with 252.5 points, comfortably ahead of vice-champion Shwartzman on 192 and Zhou, who finishes with 183.
Meanwhile, Piastri’s fourth Feature Race win in a row established a new record in F2, as the 2021 draws to a close.
