George Russell seized pole position in an eventful Qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix, the Mercedes driver leading team mate Kimi Antonelli in a front row lockout.
The Briton stormed to P1 with a lap of 1m 18.518s, a margin of 0.293s from Antonelli whose car was repaired in time for the session following his heavy crash in Free Practice 3.
Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar claimed third place, ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and the McLaren duo of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.
There was also early drama in the session when Max Verstappen crashed out in Q1, the Red Bull man bringing out the red flags after spinning into the barriers and subsequently winding up in 20th place.
