Qualifying in Canada was a wet and wild affair in which being on track at the right time on the right tyres proved critical. It provided a mixed up grid, with some big names finding themselves shy of the sharp end - while Haas's Nico Hulkenberg had looked set to join polesitter Max Verstappen on the front row.
That was until stewards handed the German a three-place penalty for a red-flag infringement, along with similar drops for impeding for Ferrari's Carlos Sainz, Aston Martin's local boy Lance Stroll, and AlphaTauri's Yuki Tsunoda.
It means we now have Fernando Alonso's Aston Martin alongside Verstappen's Red Bull on row one, with the two Mercedes immediately behind. Meanwhile, those out of position further back on the grid include Charles Leclerc in 10th and Sergio Perez in 12th.
