'Probably my best race weekend' – Colapinto reflects on P7 finish in Spanish GP

Franco Colapinto believes that his seventh-place finish in last weekend's Spanish Grand Prix culminated in "probably my best race weekend" for Alpine this season.

The Argentinian finished best of the rest behind the leading teams on Formula 1's first visit to the Madring after a strong weekend overall.

Colapinto out-qualified Alpine team mate Pierre Gasly for only the second time this season in P9.

Having jumped ahead of Oscar Piastri's McLaren at the start and benefitted when Lewis Hamilton retired his Ferrari, a pit stop under the race's only Virtual Safety Car ensured Colapinto remained in the points at the chequered flag.

"It's probably my best race weekend in terms of execution this year, I maximised everything in Qualifying and did what I had to do today," said Colapinto.

"We will all debrief as a team and continue to develop the car and maximise our performances each weekend.”

The result means Colapinto has finished in the points in back-to-back races, having run as high as third at the previous round in Italy before a small mistake dropped him down the order.

It was also Colapinto's eighth finish inside the points from 14 races, his strong season ultimately convincing Alpine's senior management to re-sign him ahead of the Italian GP weekend.

"I think the team did an amazing job and I maximised everything today and yesterday, so very proud of the result. Very excited for the future," added Colapinto on his performance in Spain.

"It's going well. I think we can take it forward into Baku and the rest of the year."

When asked if anything in particular had clicked this season which had improved his performances, Colapinto replied: "No, I'm just feeling one with the car, I think I'm learning and improving."
