It was a strong start to the Miami Grand Prix for pole-sitter Max Verstappen, while a close battle for second place unfolded behind him into Turn 1.
Verstappen launched off the line to hold the lead as the lights went out, but Charles Leclerc had a poor getaway from P2. This allowed Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez to sneak through before a lock-up from Perez caused him to go wide – and narrowly avoid tagging Verstappen in the process.
