The six-time world champion escaped unscathed, but having already predicted a 'nightmare' with traffic in qualifying, Hamilton has perhaps got a little taster of what's in store in the pole position shootout.

After FP3 finished, Romain Grosjean, Sergio Perez, Nicholas Latifi, Pierre Gasly, Carlos Sainz, Lance Stroll and Alex Albon - along with Hamilton himself - were all summoned to the stewards for "alleged driving unnecessarily slowly in turn 11" in relation to the incident.

But after speaking to the drivers the stewards did not penalise any of them, saying "it is impossible to determine that any driver was wholly or predominantly to blame for the incident.

"Whilst it might be assumed that the first car in the “queue” was predominantly to blame, it was not possible for us to determine how far forward in the queue we should consider and all cars appeared to have complied with the minimum time specified by the Race Director," the statement concluded.
