WATCH: Carlos Sainz spins at Turn 1 and blocks pit exit in first practice for Styrian GP
Formula 1 arrived in Austria this week for a back-to-back double header at the Red Bull Ring, beginning with this weekend's Styrian Grand Prix.
The drivers got their first laps under their belt in first practice on Friday morning, and plenty were busy finding their limits by running wide, seeing times deleted for track limits infractions, and discovering where there was grip, and where there wasn't.
Robert Kubica – driving the Alfa Romeo in place of Kimi Raikkonen in FP1 – had an early spin, before Carlos Sainz brought out the yellow flags when he spun on the exit of Turn 1, with his Ferrari rotating through 180 degrees and ending up facing into the pit exit. Valtteri Bottas – who was trying to leave the pits in his Mercedes – was forced to stop his car while Sainz recovered, as you can see in the video above.
