As the 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix got under way, it was Red Bull’s Sergio Perez who aced the start from P2, as pole-sitter Charles Leclerc locked up, conceding the lead to the Mexican.
Leclerc, starting from pole for the second year in a row – a first in Baku – locked up his inside front-left tyre and ran slightly wide at Turn 1, which was all the invitation Perez needed, as he nipped past the Ferrari into the lead.

Behind, Sebastian Vettel passed Yuki Tsunoda for P8, as the pack filed in an incident-free manner around the Baku City Circuit – which hasn’t always been the case in Azerbaijan!
