WATCH: Leclerc and Stroll collide during first practice in Monaco as red flags brought out

The red flags were displayed less than 10 minutes into the opening practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix following a bizarre collision between Charles Leclerc and Lance Stroll.

Leclerc, who won on the streets of the Principality 12 months ago, had run deep at Mirabeau on his out-lap before reversing and rejoining without incident.

But just minutes later while on a flying lap, the Ferrari driver ran into the back of Stroll's Aston Martin under braking for the Loewes Hairpin after the Canadian driver moved back onto the racing line.

Leclerc's car suffered a broken front wing and pitted, while Stroll's car needed repairs on the rear as the session was red-flagged for several minutes to retrieve debris that had been scattered around the track. Ultimately the Aston Martin was unable to resume in the session with the team confirming the car had suffered rear suspension damage and needed a gearbox change.
