The reigning champion entered Miami on a high after an Imola grand slam, but was left ruing an "extremely painful" start to life in the Sunshine State after a hydraulic issue cut short his FP2 running.

No matter, he bounced back in qualifying to challenge the Ferraris – but fell short in Q3 with a late mistake. Again, Verstappen wasn't thrilled by his compromised start to the weekend.

Yet the Dutchman kept on pushing, flew past Carlos Sainz at the start and took the lead off Charles Leclerc not long after for his second consecutive win, and third of 2022 – plus a valuable haul of points to keep the title fight raging.
