There was early drama in Qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix when Max Verstappen spun off into the barriers.
Max Verstappen brought out the red flags early in Qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix after the Dutchman dramatically crashed out of Q1.
Having joined the action with eight minutes to spare in the first segment, Verstappen was yet to get a banker lap on the board when the Red Bull driver span off the track and into the barriers at Turn 1.
“The car just locked on the rear axles,” Verstappen reported over the radio following the incident, before walking away from his stricken car while the session was stopped.
Having been unable to get a timed lap in, the four-time World Champion was left down in 20th following the conclusion of the first segment of Qualifying, with Carlos Sainz and Lance Stroll failing to emerge onto the track.
